QA402 console show me as follows.

 ![shot1](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex032/uploads/quantasylum/original/1X/764c50353379296f7e994482353ae1827a4d4b3e.jpeg)

And I am running Ubuntu on a disk with Windows10 by multi-booting.
If the VM would be more successful to this issue, I can build a VM.

Ok, that’s how it looks for me if I don’t have the QA402 connected.

This is what it says when it is connected:

```auto
Existing settings file loaded
Server started listening on port 9402
Usb Connected
Factory calibration data loaded from flash
```

I have not managed to get the QA401 to work in a VM. Not tried the QA402 though. I don’t think that’s a good solution. It should work natively in Linux.

You have installed libusb right, like it says in the instructions?

One more way to verify permissions is like this:

```auto
$ usb-devices
...
T: Bus=01 Lev=03 Prnt=06 Port=02 Cnt=01 Dev#= 11 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=16c0 ProdID=4e37 Rev=01.00
S: Manufacturer=QUANTASYLUM
S: Product=QA402 Audio Analyzer
...
```

Note `Bus=01` and `Dev#= 11` in my example here.
I can then have a look in the file system to find the actual usb device for the QA402:

```auto
$ ls -la /dev/bus/usb/001/011
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 189, 11 sep. 18 12:37 /dev/bus/usb/001/011
```

`001` in the path is from `Bus` (with added 0), and `011` is from `Dev` (with added 0). If you replug the QA402 the last number will likely increase by one every time.

Your output should look the same if it’s correct.

Hi blurpy,

I got as follows.

song@song-MS-7C67:~$ usb-devices

T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=12 Cnt=01 Dev#= 15 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=16c0 ProdID=4e37 Rev=01.00
S: Manufacturer=QUANTASYLUM
S: Product=QA402 Audio Analyzer
S: SerialNumber=8431\_A2FD
C: #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=498mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 6 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=06 Prot=50 Driver=(none)

The results are same as yours, except the first “T:” line.
My QA402’s device number is 15.

song@song-MS-7C67:~$ ls -la /dev/bus/usb/001/015
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 189, 14 9월 18 20:37 /dev/bus/usb/001/015

It is also same as yours.

usbutils and libusb are not the same. libusb contains libraries for applications like QA40x to use when communicating with usb devices. usbutils contains lsusb, which is just for listing usb devices.

See the installation script you created earlier. It shows you how to install it.

OK, I understood.

I met an error message, as follows, “Unable to locate package libusb”

I’ve just installed libusb-1.0-0-dev and at last my QA402 has been connected.
I’ll test more for QA402 app.

Thank you again.

I rebooted Ubuntu and excuted QA402 app.
The control pannel(left side) did not move up/down,
so could not click the run button.
But suddenly it moved after 1~2minutes.
It is not serious problem for me, I’ll test more step by step.

Thank you.

* * *

I’ve found out while I run QA402 loopback test, sometimes the app had been frozen.
I’ll reinstall Ubuntu cleanly and repeat the all the process from the first.

I’ll report the test results after 2 or 3 days.

Happy to see you managed to get it working!

The issue with scrolling the left pane is known. You can either click a button to make scrolling work, or use the page up/down keys.

The app is also a bit unstable on Linux. That will likely improve with time. It’s very new code, and Linux support on top of that is also very new. If you find issues be sure to let Matt know so he can fix them.

Hi Matt,

While I ran the command lines of “QA402 Usb Install.readme” script,
I found that libusb was not installed fully and my QA402 couldn’t
be recognized.

```
         ------ QA402 Usb Install.readme ------
```

The steps needed to make the Audio Analyzer known to
\*# Linux are shown below. You might need to tweak \*
_# depending on your platform_
\*# \*
_# Install MONO_
_# See [Install Mono on Linux | Mono](https://www.mono-project.com/docs/getting-started/install/linux/)_
\*# \*
_# Install LibUSB. This might be already installed._
_# sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0-0_
:
:
---------------

I changed the libusb command line as follows and succeeded;

before : $ sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0-0
after : $ sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0-0-dev

I could find it thanks to blurpy’s kind advise.

I have a QA 402 and a Macbook Air, running Mac OSx Ventura 13.2 on Apple M1.

> [@matt](#):

I couldn’t find this.

I installed Mono, and tried to run the latest QA40x installer:

> % mono setup\_QA40x\_1.215.exe
> Cannot open assembly ‘setup\_QA40x\_1.215.exe’: File does not contain a valid CIL image.

The file Matt linked above:

> % mono QA40x.exe
> crashed with a segfault.

Where is the current version of the QA40x.exe/directory structure, and what is the current state of play on OSx?

TIA

Hi @Giallograle, I’d be very surprised if you were able to get this running on OSX. I think people with a lot of expertise have been able to get things running on different flavors of Linux with some success. But generally, it takes a lot of time. But OSX is a huge step beyond that. For that reason, I think a VM like Parallels is recommended.

The QA40x directory structure isn’t provided any longer. But you can run the app install under Parallels and snapshot that directory structure onto a thumb drive and move as needed to your target machine if you want to experiment.

Thanks, Matt

I’ll try on Linux and see if I can get anywhere with OSx

I just bought a QA403 with the expectation that I could manage an install on my MacBook M1, but I’m stuck at the same spot as @giallograle described in post 31 above. It seems the next step would be to find and borrow a PC just to create an image(?). If correct, it seems that could just be provided directly on GitHub. What am I missing?

Also, buying Parallels (which seems to be a subscription) and a WinOS for it is not in the cards. Are there other options to try or do I need to send the unit back and abandon? Thanks.

If Windows is not in the cards (even with a free VM, you’d still need to find or buy a Windows ISO), you could try getting a Linux virtual machine going on the Mac (Google says UTM is free), and install the QA403 software there. If I understand Matt correctly, you’d still need a Windows machine (real or virtual) with Mono to create the image (if that’s the right term) for the Linux install.

Thanks. I might try the Linux virtual, and maybe I can borrow a Win PC too, but I don’t understand why the right files aren’t directly available. In this day it’s a bummer even to delve into multiple files on Github, but I don’t mind too much if it’s fairly straightforward. But this is not, and it doesn’t seem like much to expect hardware sold in 2026 to come with a macOS native version SW.
