first I wanted to thank Matt for the new 1.223 release for the QA403. I have only tested the updated “SPKR Impedance” from the “Automated Tests” menu so far.
With release 1.223 the results of the TSP measurement seem ok, Fs, Qts and Vas are all within the expected tolerance of the Audax HM210G6 loudspeaker chassis.
There are still two issues which need some investigation:
When the SPKR Impedance test finishes, the HTML Report is correctly generated but the QA40x Graph window shows an error message. The QA40x application needs to be relaunched to start any other measurements.
The impedance Zmax for the first and for the added mass measurements are a little less than 50% of the corresponding values measured with the 1.222 release. I used the same setup (QA403 + QA461) for my measurements.
While the first problem is a showstopper, the second just does not give me full trust in the test.
Best regards
Andy
Update:
I have ran some other automated tests such as frequency response and the graph window did not show the error message. The problem with the speaker impedance test is consistent, each time I ran the test.
Hi @AVO, looking at the commits, it looks like there was a single character change to the speaker impedance plug-in source.
The Cms computation was thus different, but that value doesn’t inform the zmax.
I just took the same setup and ran a sweep on 1.222 and 1.223 and it shows the following (note that 1.222 used 0 dBV full scale input while 1.223 was 42 dBv and thus a bit noisier).
But you can see Fs came in within 4% (likely due to the added noise).
The error you are seeing says the error has been logged. Can you go into your documents/quantasylum/qa40x/ExceptionLog and look to see if there’s an exception that lines up with what you saw? And then scan it to make sure there’s nothing private in there and share it here or send it to support?
I have repeated my measurements using releases 1.222 and 1.223 an I can confirm that the new release works as expected.
What went wrong with my previous measurements:
When I was running the SPKR Impedance automated test, I loaded a settings file I had used with an earlier QA40x release. This file crashed the Graph window at the end of the measurement. I have tried to save my current settings as a new SPKRImpedance.settings file. This did not work. Either there is some bug or I did not get the concept of the settings file. Without loading a .settings file, all is ok.
Most modern speakers have a ventilation hole typically in the middle of the drivers magnet. If the driver is measured with this ventilation hole closed (e.g. if the driver is lying on a table), the Zmax value measures too low.
Maybe you can just quickly confirm if the .settings files are working as expected.
