Hi @Calvin. I purchased the QA403 in March 2022 from Quantasylum. The additional cost for shipping to Italy (VAT, customs duties, and customs clearance fees) was approximately 140 euros, which I paid to the courier (DHL). Obviously, these are amounts relating to Italy and dating back about 4 years. Everything may have changed now.
sorry to come back late, but Discourse AI went mad and denied any earlier response.
First I would like to thank You for Your input.
Then I´d like to shortly report how things went on.
Having contacted Saelig as a first time buyer they were really a pleasure to deal with and answered quickly.
I even got the EEVblog discount code from a selig employee over the EEVblog forum in less than a day.
FEDEX as the freighter was excellent also.
Shipping from Saelig in the USA to Cologne in Germany in less than 48h !!!
Then Customs took over and a custom identity number (EORI-no.) had to be issued.
Even this burocratic process went smooth within two days thanx to Fedex … simply brilliant.
I payed my customs/VAT and Fedex service fee (less than I thought it would be) and got my two QA403 delivered soon after in the south of Germany.
Apart from the delay regarding customs/EORI-no. -which shouldn´t be an issue next time- shipping went smooth and probabely as fast as ordering from Elektor and it costed me less than the member-discounted Elektor price.
Good to hear it worked out. How much were the customs and MwSt/VAT fees, and how much did Fedex charge as a service/broker fee? Was there an option to prepay through Saelig (you pay Saelig, Saelig prepays custom, VAT and broker fees)?
I have checked what I paid back in June 2025 for shipment of my QA403 from QA to Switzerland.
In total it was around USD 140 (incl. UPS Shipment cost, Brokerage fee and VAT) - no other import taxes. This is slightly less to what you paid. I ordered in summer because I was expecting that the tariff war will further escalate but finally it did not (so far).
